AHAFO REGIONAL COORDINATING COUNCIL HOLDS STATUTORY MEETING TO REVIEW REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA

The Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025, held its statutory meeting at the Ahafo RCC Conference Hall to review the region’s development agenda and assess progress on key government programmes and projects.

The meeting brought together Officials from the Regional Co-ordinating Council, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), Hon. Presiding Members, heads of centralized and decentralized departments, agencies and services. Discussions focused on strengthening coordination among institutions to accelerate socio-economic development across the Ahafo Region.

In her address, the Ahafo Regional Minister, and Chairperson for the Council, Hon. (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner, emphasized the importance of collaboration, accountability and effective monitoring in achieving the region’s development goals. She urged all MDCEs, heads of departments and agencies to intensify supervision of projects to ensure timely completion and value for money.
Hon. (Mrs.) Gardiner noted that the statutory meeting provided an opportunity to review progress, address challenges, and realign strategies for effective policy implementation. She highlighted significant progress made in tackling key regional challenges, particularly the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) and illegal lumbering, which she said had helped protect the region’s natural resources.


The Regional Minister further outlined government special initiatives aimed at boosting agriculture and employment in the region. She highlighted the Nkoko Nketenkete poultry processing programme, whose sod-cutting ceremony was performed by the President John Dramani Mahama at Bechem, the vegetable development project launched at Kukuom, and the Adwumawura programme, which is creating employment opportunities and empowering the youth through skills training and enterprise support.
She also announced the approval for the construction of a Regional Hospital to improve healthcare delivery in Ahafo and stressed the urgent need for the completion of the ongoing Agenda 111 hospital project within the region. She called on all stakeholders to support these critical interventions to ensure improved access to quality healthcare.
Presenting the regional outlook, Mr. Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, the Ahafo Regional Development Planning Officer on behalf of the Regional Planning Co-ordinating Unit (RPCU), provided a comprehensive overview of development performance across key sectors including infrastructure, health, education, agriculture and sanitation. He explained that continuous monitoring and evaluation had enhanced evidence-based decision-making and helped identify implementation challenges early. He emphasized the need for strong coordination among districts, agencies, and development partners to align regional plans with national policies.


The meeting also received detailed reports from selected heads of departments, including the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Department of Agriculture, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Urban Roads, Ghana Highway Authority, Feeder Roads Department, and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA). These reports highlighted sectoral achievements, ongoing projects, operational challenges, and proposed interventions to improve service delivery across the region.
Additionally, Hon. MDCEs across the Ahafo Region presented reports on developments within their respective districts. They highlighted progress in infrastructure development, agriculture, education, health service delivery, sanitation and local economic empowerment initiatives, while outlining challenges and priority areas requiring support. The district-level reports provided the Council with valuable insights into grassroots development issues and local governance performance.


In her closing remarks, Hon. (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner expressed appreciation to all participants for their active participation and constructive contributions. She emphasized the need for effective implementation of resolutions,
continuous monitoring, and accountability to ensure that decisions taken translate into tangible benefits for the people of Ahafo.
She reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting districts in delivering quality services and called on traditional authorities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to continue partnering with the RCC.
