NEWMONT AFRICA DONATES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES TO HEALTH FACILITIES IN AHAFO.

On Wednesday, 16th July, 2025 Newmont Africa, one of the biggest gold mining operations in Ghana, as part of its corporate social responsibility, donated medical equipment and supplies to six (6) health facilities in the Ahafo and Bono Regions to facilitate their effective operations. The donation was made at the premises of the Goaso Municipal Hospital.

Newmont Africa, in partnership with Project C.U.R.E., an international healthcare NGO, donated items worth US $700,000.00 to six health facilities with the Ahafo and Bono enclave to facilitate their smooth operations while improving healthcare service delivery for residents in those communities.

The facilities that benefitted from the donation included the following:
▪ Goaso Municipal Hospital
▪ Sunyani Municipal Hospital
▪ Nkaseim Health Centre
▪ Kenyasi District Hospital
▪ Atronie Health Centre
▪ Mehame CHPS Compound

The donation was made on behalf of the company by its Head of External Relations and Social Performance, Mr. Abraham Agbozo and received by the Hon. (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister with support from Dr. Akosua Owusu Sarpong, the
Regional Director of Health Services, on the behalf of the hospitals and the Health Directorate.

Mr. Abraham Agbozo whilst addressing the gathering, emphasized the company’s deep commitment to the well-being of communities within its operational areas. He insisted
that Newmont as a corporate citizen takes its social responsibility seriously and are pleased to support the region’s healthcare needs through the initiative. He re-iterated Newmont’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure within their operational areas and Ghana as a whole.

He paid special compliments to the Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, the National Hajj Coordinator and Member of Parliament for Asutifi South and the Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North for the roles they played in clearing and transporting the equipment to the Region.

The donation includes a wide range of vital medical equipment such as glucose meters, laryngoscopes, nebulizers, electro-medical devices, surgical kits and other critical supplies aimed at improving patient care and operational efficiency in the health sector.

Dr. Akosua Owusu Sarpong, Regional Director of Health Services, in her remarks described the gesture as “a celebration of partnership.” She emphasized that effective healthcare
requires more than policy, it also demands collaboration and shared responsibility. She expressed appreciation and deep sense of gratitude to Newmont and Project C.U.R.E. for their unwavering commitment to improving lives, especially in underserved communities. She stood in the stead of the managers of the health facilities that the equipment and supplies will be put to effective and intended use.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner, also commended Newmont and its partners for the generous support. She highlighted the vital role public-private partnerships play in advancing Ghana’s health sector and urged facility managers to ensure the donated equipment is well maintained and used purposefully. She assuredthe gathering that government remains resolute in its commitment to achieving universal health coverage for all citizens.

The programme was graced by the Hon. Joseph Akparibo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North, Hon. Hafiz Dabeil Dauda, the District Chief Executive for Asutifi North, Directors and Officials from Newmont, Medical Superintendents, Officers from Government Institutions, Nananom, Healthcare Professionals, Students, the Media Fraternity and the general public.

This donation reinforces Newmont Africa’s position as not just a mining leader but also a key development partner in Ghana’s journey toward quality healthcare for all.
