Stakeholders in the Ahafo Region on Friday, 30thJanuary, 2026, held a meeting at the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Conference Room to discuss activities meant for the implementation of the
Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Re-Assessment Programme, aimed at improving the effectiveness and targeting of beneficiaries across the region. The meeting commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Regional Economic Planning Officer, Mr. Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, on behalf of the Chief Director, during which he highlighted the relevance of the LEAP Re-Assessment Programme in strengthening social protection delivery in the region.
Addressing participants, the Head of Payments for LEAP at the national level, Mr. Ignatius Owusu, explained that some beneficiaries have been on the LEAP intervention since 2008, making the re-assessment exercise necessary to ensure the programme remains responsive and equitable. He highlighted the importance of the LEAP Re-Assessment exercise to the beneficiaries, noting that it ensures support reaches the most vulnerable households and that programme resources are directed where they are needed most. Mr. Owusu also noted that LEAP interventions and beneficiary targeting are guided by data from the Ghana National Household Register (GNHR) and specifically target extremely poor and poor households within vulnerable categories.
He further highlighted that there are 700,000 people currently on the LEAP system, with the government planning to support 400,000 beneficiaries nationwide. In the Ahafo Region, after validation, 3,439 households
across 376 communities within the various assemblies have been targeted for support. He added that officers across the assemblies have been trained to carry out the validation exercise and will be responsible for ensuring that beneficiary targeting is accurate and transparent. He also noted that the Ghana Card will be used during the validation to verify identities and ensure the integrity of the exercise. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to review the objectives, scope and modalities of the reassessment exercise, including processes for data collection, verification and community engagement. Discussions also focused on roles and responsibilities, timelines for implementation, and strategies to address potential challenges during the exercise.
The meeting concluded with closing remarks delivered by the Regional Economic Planning Officer, Mr. Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, on behalf of the Chief Director, during which he thanked stakeholders for their good work
and commitment and assured them that the Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) remains fully committed to supporting the successful implementation of the LEAP Re-Assessment Programme, in line with government’s broader efforts to reduce poverty and improve the welfare of vulnerable households in the region.
