On Wednesday, 11th June 2025, the Right to Information (RTI) Unit of the Information Services Department at the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) carried out an important outreach exercise at Goaso Presbyterian Junior High School.

The initiative aimed at empowering pupils with knowledge of the Right to Information Law (Act 989) and fostering a culture of transparency,
accountability and civic engagement among the younger generation.
Mr. Theophilus Nti-Antwi, the RTI Officer for the Ahafo RCC, led the session and offered insightful reflections on the purpose and importance of the RTI Law.
He explained that the law, passed in 2019 after years of advocacy by civil society organizations, the media, and other stakeholders, marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s democratic development. He indicated that the passage of the RTI Law reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, and its readiness to involve citizens in the governance process.

During the session, he took the pupils through key provisions of the law, including:
• The right of access to official information,
• Procedures for requesting information, and
• Categories of information exempted from disclosure.
He emphasized how the law serves as a powerful tool for citizens to hold leaders accountable, make informed decisions, and actively engage in public discourse.Mr. Nti Antwi stated that as future leaders and responsible citizens, it is important that they understand their rights under the RTI Law.
The outreach was part of ongoing efforts by the Ahafo RCC to promote
awareness of the RTI Law at the grassroots level, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of age, understands their right to access information and participate meaningfully in governance.
