On Wednesday 19th February, 2025, the Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council as part of the activities under the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program which is being implemented, organized a planning meeting to engage key stakeholders in preparation towards the commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day at the AhRCC.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on the 8th of March each year. It provides an opportunity to highlight the importance and values of empowering women through water, sanitation and hygiene programming and services which can help develop resilient communities and deliver more sustainable and effective outcomes in WASH and beyond.
In his remarks to open the meeting, the Chief Director, Mr Sampson Amoako Kwarteng welcomed the WASH teams from all the six districts and municipalities for honouring the invitation. The Chief Director expressed his happiness to join technical working groups to discuss ideas for a successful celebration tof this important day to celebrate our women.
On her part, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardiner, expressed her joy and enthusiasm about the meeting, highlighting it as a valuable opportunity to engage with the various WASH teams across the districts. She acknowledged the Chief Director and the Regional Economic Planning Officer for their briefing on ongoing WASH activities in the region and expressed her appreciation for Netcentric Campaigns’ significant support in enhancing WASH service delivery through improved customer service and WASH literacy in the Ahafo.
The Minister emphasized her passion for WASH initiatives and assured her full support for the districts in organizing the upcoming International Women’s Day celebration and other globally recognized events. She also called for collective commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the success of these programs.
Mr. Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, the Regional Economic Planning Officer briefed the house that the motive of the meeting was to plan for the activities ahead of the Celebration which is scheduled on the March 8, 2025.
Again, there was a review of the previous year’s celebration of the World Water Week.
According to the REPO, the success story was that, most people received sensitization and public education on WASH through radio stations, community information Centres. There were increases in the enrollment of new members to the WASH network and people got to know the toll free lines and complains were lodged which received quick responses.
In conclusion, Mr. Ntiamoah thanked all participants for bringing the meeting to a successful climax and highlighted other upcoming events for the year which included, Menstrual Hygiene Day, World Toilet Day, Hand Hygiene Day and World Water Week among others.
The meeting was attended by. Hon. Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Sampson Amoako Kwarteng, the Chief Director, Municipal and District Co-ordinating Directors, Mr Jacob Adade Ntiamoah, the Regional Economic Planning Officer. Others include staff of the Planning Unit, I.T Unit, Information Services Daprtment, Client Service Unit, Environmental Health Unit and the Finance Department.
