AHAFO REGIONAL MINISTER, HON. (MRS.) CHARITY GARDINER ENGAGES NANANOM ON ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION

Illegal mining remains a significant challenge, posing threats to legal mining operations, environmental sustainability, and community safety in the region.
The Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardiner in collaboration with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the Police Service, and other security agencies, is committed to addressing this issue decisively in line with government’s pledge and assurances to contain and ultimately eradicate it.
As part of efforts to curb illegal mining in the region, the Hon. Regional Minister and REGSEC have held meetings with Nananom from the host communities where Newmont and the other mining companies are currently operating. Recognizing them as key stakeholders in this fight, the engagement aimed to foster collaboration and collective action.


During the discussions, stakeholders identified several root causes of illegal mining and proposed various measures to tackle the menace effectively. It was agreed that regular engagements with Nananom, opinion leaders, security personnel, political party leaders, and sympathizers would be essential in sustaining efforts against illegal mining.
Additionally, stakeholders resolved to maintain a sustained security presence in identified areas to deter illegal mining activities.
REGSEC remains committed to maintaining law and order in the region, ensuring that residents can conduct their businesses without fear or intimidation.
