VISIT OF A HIGH-POWERED MILITARY DELEGATION TO THE AHAFO REGIONAL MINISTER, HON. (MRS.) CHARITY GARDINER

A high-powered military delegation, on Tuesday 19th May, 2025, paid a curtesy visit to the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner, at her office in Goaso. The visit formed part of an official engagement to brief the Hon. Minister on recent developments at the Military High Command and to formally introduce the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Central Command to her.


The delegation, led by senior Military Officers, informed the Minister of key leadership changes within the military structure. Brigadier General Albert Agaja has been appointed as the new General Officer Commanding the Central Command, replacing Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, who has been transferred to the Military Headquarters in Accra. Also, Lt. Col Appau, Commanding Officer for 3Bn in Sunyani has also been transferred to Accra. He is being replaced by Lt. Col Michael Naah. The changes take immediate effect.

In her remarks, Hon (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing commander Brigadier General Opoku, for his dedicated service and commitment to maintaining peace and security in the Ahafo Region during his tenure.

She acknowledged the strong collaboration between the Military and
civil authorities and emphasized the importance of continued co operation for the development and stability of the Region.
She further encouraged Brigadier General Agaja to emulate his predecessor’s dedication and work diligently to uphold the existing peaceful atmosphere in the Region.

Brigadier General Opoku, in his brief remarks, thanked the Hon Minister and the people of the Ahafo Region for their support and co-operation throughout his service.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the Minister to prioritise the tarring of the road leading to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Sankore, citing the need for improved access to facilitate security operations. He also highlighted the challenges faced in the areas of fuel supply and transportation and urged the Regional Co-ordinating Council to assist in addressing their logistical constraints.

The visit concluded on a cordial note, with assurance from the Hon. Regional Minister of the continued support and collaboration with the Military to ensure peace, security and development in the Ahafo Region.
